Garance is the youngest child of interesting parents who are socially upscale, but not snobbish and bourgeois, rather bohemian. He has two brothers and a sister, the siblings love each other very much and stick together, even though they already have their adult lives. The book tells about the trip of siblings to a relative's wedding, a conventional wedding in a noble spirit. One of the brothers, Vincent, who works as a castellan in the family castle (where there is no running water, the reconstruction proceeds slowly and you can barely make a living on the entrance fee), does not go with them, so the siblings leave the wedding as a wedding and go after him.
