Štefan Margita is a regular guest of the world's leading opera stages, but his artistic repertoire is even richer. Past Supraphon projects offered his performance of world evergreens, famous musical melodies and Christmas songs, now he has added his love for France and especially its chansons. However, it is not an orthodox Gallic affair when originally Polish, Slovak or specially written domestic compositions are also played.

For this type of music - in addition to sensitively soulful singing - the lyrics are absolutely essential. Štefan Margita took over some of the most fundamental ones for us (Jiřina Fikejzová, Pavel Kopta, Pavel Cmíral, Hana Zagorová and Vojtěch Nýdl), and completely new verses were also written just for this occasion: Gabriela Osvaldová, Ľubomír Feldek, Martin Chodúr or Václav Kopta composed directly to measure. Chodúr's text for Brel's famous chanson Quand on n'a que l'amour was then authorized by the chansonist's daughter France Brel from Editions Jacques Brel. Two original Czech songs with music by Ondřej Soukup and Martin Chodúr were created for this collection. Margita also successfully approached several rare guests for duets: Zlata Adamovská, Hana Zagorová and Miroslav Žbirka decorated the album with their performances. The title song Mapa lásky, a duet with Hana Hegerová, is absolutely extraordinary, using an older recording of the voice of the legendary chanson singer, who officially ended her singing career in 2011. With her personal approval, she supported Štefan Margita's idea to perform the first virtual duet in the history of Czech popular music. Chansons are a very beautiful and difficult singing category. That's why Štefan Margita prepared for a long time, carefully selected and filmed in a relaxed manner in the production of Jan Adam and Daniel Hádl. It's a matter of his heart - and after listening to this album it will most certainly be yours too.
