A story of love and betrayal against the background of the conquest of the most famous city at the turn of the Middle Ages and the modern era. Conceived as a fictional diary, the historical novel introduces the life, thinking, customs and manners of people in the former metropolis of Eastern civilization at the end of the Byzantine Middle Ages and captures its futile defense of Constantinople against the Turkish hordes. The heart of the story is the tragic love affair between the pilgrim Jan Angelo, who ran away from the service of the Turkish sultan, and Anna Notaras, the daughter of a leading Byzantine official and a relative of the emperor. Against the background of the conquest of one of the most famous cities of the turn of the Middle Ages and the modern era, the center of Roman education and religion, the story of love, war, betrayal and pain takes place, presented by Jaroslav Plesl, read verbatim by Stanislav Zindulka.
