Prescenes have always been the basic stage expression in all the plays of Osvobozené theater by Jiří Voskovec and Jan Werich since the Vest Pocket Revue. Back then, they were created by accident to quickly entertain the audience with the chatter of two comedians in front of the curtain before a problem on stage was resolved. The success of the first pre-scene then established a tradition that significantly influenced the magical appeal of V+W humor. Miroslav Horníček took Jiří Voskovec's place in the pre-scenes in the renewed productions of OD in the years 1955–60 at the ABC Theatre. In the grip of harsh Stalinist censorship, the pair created humor that acted as an oasis of free expression, cleverness and wit. Their battle with stupidity is still relevant today. The recordings, preserved in the Supraphon archive, are released on these 2CDs in their entirety, supplemented by a bonus of uncensored recordings from the private archive of Jan Borovička (once employed in the promotion of the ABC Theater) and preserved thanks to his son, Jiří Borovička.
