After two centuries of systematic collecting, a publication is published that maps the agate wealth of the Czech lands. In addition to agate, it showcases the diversity of the entire group of other siliceous materials – jasper, chalcedony, carnelian, fossilized wood, quartz veins and other lesser-known, but still very aesthetic varieties. The main part of the book shows more than 950 stones from 56 of the most important sites in Bohemia and Moravia on 172 panels. Typical finds, obtained mostly from private collections and mostly not yet published, are supplemented by short texts characterizing the individual sites. The book is introduced by the essay Illustrated stones by Václav Cílek, which comprehensively deals with the given topic - from the origin of the stone, through the history of their use to their symbolic meaning.
