The landscape has been given a number of names over the past few centuries. They were mostly German names, which in translation meant the Czech Netherlands, the Table Mountains of the Polabian Mountains, the Czech Switzerland or the Czech-Saxon Switzerland. Today, its part on the Czech side of the border is officially called Děčínská vrchovina and less officially, but probably more aptly, Labské pískovce.
