Czech Christmas Mass with subtitle "Hey master, get up quickly" Jakub Jan Ryba (1765 - 1815) se became the best-known work of one of the most educated Czech cantors and musicians of his time, who connected his fate with working in school services in the small town of Rožmitále pod Třemešínem. In Rožmitál Ryba developed a multifaceted educational, didactic, literary and especially musical activity. In his compositional legacy we can find a number of masses and a Latin text, but only one with a Czech text. In this case, Ryba used his own Czech version of the story of the birth of Christ in Bethlehem based on folk nativity plays. Since its first performance at Christmas in 1796, the Rybova Czech Mass gradually became a symbol of the Czech Christmas holidays and is still widely performed today.
