"The heir to the throne is dead!" shout the camels in the streets. The First World War began. Many think it will be quick and short. Even the Nekolova sisters do not believe that their lives could change. Milada picks up a custom-made dress in Arnoštka Roubíčková's salon, and Gusta paints a picture for an exhibition in the Municipal House, where as a woman she can exhibit only one canvas. Her chosen one, Jareš, has several paintings at the same exhibition, but he won't give up a single nail for Gusta. At the same time, he knows that she paints better than him, better than all the men in the studio. Augusta Nekolová, one of the most gifted painters of her time, has everything that her younger sister Milada lacks: energy, beauty, talent, determination and success. However, for Milada, he is still the closest person for whom - when things get worst - she would even breathe.
