Anna, Elizabeth, Agnes. Three women, three generations, one family and many life twists, traumas and secrets.
The story begins before the First World War, when Anna, the narrator's grandmother, goes to a border town in the north of Bohemia with her chosen one, Antonín, despite the opposition of her parents. As if the initial letter of their names expressed the hope that this is where they can start a new life together. However, the name also symbolizes what we cannot choose, what is given to us as a family heritage, which we always carry with us despite all our determination to change. Or also fate, the trials of which we have little influence.
The new beginning soon turns into a fight for survival when Antonín is wounded at the front and Anna develops tuberculosis. A quarter of a century later, another new beginning awaits their daughter Alžběta, who has to flee from the German army occupying the borderlands, and after another half century, a dramatic intervention of fate — this time in the form of an StB officer — changes the life of the narrator of Anežka's story.
