The loose continuation of the historical detective novel Death Wears Red Boots takes place again in medieval Prague, in December of 1399. Václav od Černého koně, deputy mayor of the Old Town of Prague, solves other cases. He has a lot on his shoulders: in addition to the disappearance of Vohnout, the fire in the council hall, the mess in the municipal treasury and the search for the culprits, he has to deal with a number of other smaller and bigger problems. He also tries to reveal the identity of the mysterious jurats, who are apparently also behind the ambush of the bishop's message, and to uncover the frauds of an alchemist with a bad reputation. And to top it all off, his wife Kateřina, eager for new clothes for the expected coronation, sometimes secretly attacks Václav with her secret female weapons...
