In 1774, Ignác Schiffner brutally beat his father in Dubé near the statue of Saint Prokop. He was soon caught after the crime, imprisoned, and after a short trial sentenced to death by hanging. The sentence was carried out at the execution ground in Mladá Boleslav, on a hill characteristically called "On justice". He was the last person to be executed in our countries in this very cruel way. The gloomy event recorded by parish priest Arnošt Glaser inspired one of the most important Czech poets, Karel Hynek Mácha, to write the lyrical epic May, which is considered the crowning work of our romanticism and one of the most beautiful poems ever. In 2008, it was also made into a film.
