Book novella from the 1920s. The story of two boys: the Jewish Johan and the Christian Paul, who, due to the influence of the local and contemporary conditions of the time, as well as the unfair upbringing of Paul to enmity and hatred, cannot overcome the differences resulting from the difference of their origins. Even the efforts of the mamele (mother - in Yiddish) and the Christian priest Michal Stanek, who try their best to prevent the fatal consequences of the teenage boys' behavior, prove to be futile.
