Just before Christmas 1987, an unknown man visits a couple living on a remote farm in the east of Iceland and asks for shelter from a blizzard. He claims he was lost to his friends in the blinding rush, but the landlady doesn't buy into his story. Over time, the atmosphere in the house thickens, and not only because of the power failure and the phone connection. The woman's bad feeling is confirmed and not everyone survives the unexpected visit in good health.

Criminal inspector Hulda Hermannsdóttir is assigned to investigate a complex case, and only
a few months after she herself suffered a terrible family tragedy, the consequences of which she will carry with her until the end of her life.
