Catholic priest Thomas Madden hears a strange confession from a man who claims he killed a woman who disappointed him and intends to kill more. It is clear to Thomas Madden that he must take the threat seriously, so he turns to his best friend Nick Buchanan, an FBI agent. Nick has just finished working on a case that shook his psyche, but he comes to the town of Holy Oaks to see his friend, meets his sister Laurant and together they try to track down a dangerous psychopath.
