Cooper and his daughter Finch have been living outside of civilization in the forests of the northern Appalachian Mountains for eight years. Cooper does his best to make sure Finch has the best life possible in the beautiful but harsh wilderness.
Only Scotland - their overly nosy neighbor - and Cooper's friend Jack, who visits every December to bring them supplies for the year, know about their stay in the cabin. Except this year Jack won't show up. This sets off an irreversible chain of events and reveals just how vulnerable Cooper and Finch really are.
The boundaries of their refuge are opening up and the small closed world they have lived in is no longer safe. And when Finch becomes too interested in a strange girl who wanders into their woods, Cooper must decide whether to keep hiding or finally face the sins of his past.
