Switzerland is a country of contrasts and great natural and cultural wealth. No map can capture local geographical realities. Almost two-thirds of the country is covered by mountains. Some mountain peaks exceed 4,500 m above sea level; many of them are surrounded by myths - for example the Matterhorn or the impressive trio of mountains Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau. Every Swiss city has its own atmosphere and traditions. Title details below.
Overview of Swiss attractions: The most beautiful alpine scenery, lakes, Zurich, Geneva, Luzern and many more.
Where to go for experiences: From skiing and glaciers to stormy festivals. Make the most of your free time.
William Tell, St. John's wort, chocolate and, of course, cheese: they will allow you to get to know the Swiss heritage more deeply.
Where to stay, eat and how to travel: reliable recommendations and expert advice.
If you didn't come to the country just to visit Swiss cities like Bern, Lausanne, Basel, Geneva or Zurich, then you probably spend a lot of time outside in the fresh mountain air. The possibilities for active rest not only in the world-famous mountain resorts are endless: mountain climbing, hiking, skiing, windsurfing, tennis, golf, swimming, yachting, water skiing or fishing. Or just go for a nature walk along the paths and sidewalks marked with yellow arrows.
You can also head for shopping or tasting local specialties. In Switzerland, you can easily find yourself everywhere. Geneva and its surroundings offer a large number of excellent restaurants. A very popular dish is cheese in various forms, such as raclette or fondue. Some regions are also known for their winemaking tradition.
In the guide you will find tips for trips around the country. Our recommendations include the most important and interesting places from a tourist point of view - and should help you plan your itinerary. However, we do not recommend visiting Switzerland at too brisk a pace. And don't forget - places that look close to each other on the map may actually be quite far apart. Switzerland is a land of alpine giants, so you will sometimes drive from one place to another over high mountain ridges on winding roads full of switchbacks, which will make the journey considerably longer. In conclusion, it should be noted that Switzerland is one of the most expensive countries in the world, and this must be taken into account everywhere.
