The first Czech edition of the memoirs of a prominent French author

In the book Years, Annie Ernauxová presents a personal story in which she describes the period from 1940 to 2006 through her memories, impressions of the past and present, but at the same time draws predictions for the future from them. Photographs, books, songs, radio, television, and decades of advertisements and newspaper headlines are contrasted by the author with her inner struggles and diary entries she kept for six decades. The voice, which we recognize as the author's, repeatedly disappears in the text and immediately reappears. It is relentless time itself that tells its own story, relegating all other storytellers to anonymity. This creates a new kind of autobiography that is both subjective and impersonal, private as well as collective.
