The historical detective story takes the reader to 12th century England. When Rosamund, who comes from a noble family, meets King Henry II of England, her charms immediately charm the monarch, and a romantic crush soon turns into a passionate love affair. Henry's wife, Queen Eleanor of Aquitaine, observes the development of events not only with growing jealousy, but also with concern. Therefore, at the king's request, Rosamund takes refuge in the Benedictine monastery in Godstow near Oxford, where Henry secretly visits her.
