Silence Hollingbrook replaced at the orphanage in St. Giles his sister Temperance, who married Lord Caire. At the same time, she is worried about the death of her husband - a ship captain, whose ship sank during the voyage. She is helped to get over her greatest sorrow by caring for a little girl she found on her doorstep and named Mary Darling. Even here, however, an unexpected blow awaits her. Silence discovers that the little girl is most likely the daughter of the infamous river pirate Handsome Mickey O'Connor, who caused her estrangement from the husband for whom she sacrificed herself. She is even more horrified when a pirate kidnaps the little girl to his palace and Silence offers that if he wants to be with her, he must stay in the palace as well, at least until he gets rid of his greatest adversary, the mad Vicar of Whitechapel, who goes hard after Mickey and everyone close to him. Silence gradually learns the better side of the terrible pirate and slowly succumbs to his charm. However, the Vicar of Whitechapel won't leave them alone, and in the end everything points to the fact that he will be the winner in the rivalry with Mickey. Will Silence be saved from his mad hands and will Mickey's sacrifice help?
