It is the summer of 1945, shortly after the war. Many Czech families are heading to the Sudetenland to take over the houses left by the departing Germans. Jiří and Marie Smolík, together with their son František, arrive in the foothill village of Glasendorf with all their modest possessions. The cruel and cynical national administrator and member of the Red Guard, Vojtěch Tomeček, is in office here. In his jovial and condescending way, he offers the family a beautiful Sudeten house. The house immediately excites Smolík, it has only one shortcoming. The original German family still lives there, waiting to be removed. So everyone has to learn to live in a common household over time. Ones who are the new masters here, but have to suffer the old inhabitants of the house. And others who have lived here all their lives, but now are actually strangers here. And in the background of all this, there are old grievances and wounds caused by the war...
