Kendall managed to free herself and her child from the crashed car, but in the hospital she does not dare to reveal her identity and one night she decides to run away. Against her will, she is accompanied on the run by a man whom she heroically saved from a crashed car and who lost his memory as a result of the accident. In retrospect, we learn how the heroine got into this predicament and how her story will continue. Kendall has come to the town of Prosper to become a public advocate for the weak, dispossessed and downtrodden, but is met with resistance and prejudice because of her gender. Everything starts to look rosy when she marries the handsome local rich man Matt Burnwood, but he soon turns her life into hell and she stumbles upon a strange mystery that she tries to get to the bottom of. She becomes a dangerous witness who knows too much about insidious evil - will she manage to survive and protect her child from the horror?
