Revolutionary changes after 1789 turned life upside down not only in France. Stefanie and Hermína, two sisters who had to flee the country after the French Revolution, tried in vain to find asylum with relatives in Italy. Their difficult journey through Europe ends at a small estate in Bohemia, where their great-grandfather came from. Even here, however, the situation is not idyllic. Life is difficult for the sisters, not only because they don't know the language, but above all because of broken family ties and unresolved property matters. It takes a lot more than good will to find them a new home...
