FROM A TRIP TO A DESERTED ISLAND...
A holiday trip takes Greta, Alex and four-year-old Smilla across Lake Maran (Ghost) - shrouded in myth and mystery - to a small deserted island. Alex and her daughter go among the trees, Greta lingers on the shore in a dreamy mood... and when the husband and daughter do not return, she goes after them: they must have been playing and forgot about time. She calls them and frantically searches the island, but to no avail.
…ONLY SHE IS BACK
Greta desperately needs to call Alex to make sure she and Smilla are okay, and if he doesn't answer, she has to call the police. Except her cell phone isn't in the boat. Only after returning to the cottage does she find him hidden under the covers. Did she put it there or did someone else put it there? But who and why? During the police search, urgent scenes from the past arise in front of her, and she begins to be troubled by the question of whether what she has believed to be true is not just a cleverly invented lie. And what role does she herself play in the whole drama? Is there a connection between Alex and Smilla's disappearance and what happened that evening many years ago when Greta's father lost his life? Who was the unknown woman who appeared at their cabin the night before she disappeared?
And will they ever find Alex and Smilla?
In the Mist is a psychological thriller where no one is who they first think. , and nothing is as it first appears.
The dark tones of the atmosphere of the novel, characteristic of Nordic thrillers, are combined with penetrating psychology in a perfect form that anticipates great success.(Libretto Reviews)
