Malcolm Sinclair, with a reputation as a not exactly noble and honest man, miraculously survives his death. As he recovers from his injuries at the priory, he has plenty of time to think about the past and make amends. After returning to the country estate, he discovers that he has a new housekeeper who lives in the house with two children.
