Written based on the remarkable true story of the ship Carpathia and its legendary captain who responded to the distress call of the sinking Titanic.
Shortly after midnight on April 14-15, 1912, the Carpathia's captain, Arthur Rostron, is roused from his sleep and receives a report that the Titanic is sending out a distress signal as it has struck an iceberg during its maiden voyage. Despite the lack of information, Rostron immediately springs into action, determined to respond to the call for help. But the Carpathia is more than four hours away from the accident site. More and more questions, no answers. Will his ship stay together when he exposes it to unprecedented speeds? What if he also hits an iceberg? And with the freezing cold, will there even be any survivors when the Carpathia arrives?
Kate Connolly is a third class passenger on the Titanic. After the ship hits an iceberg, he is one of the last people to receive instructions and help. Despite the confusion of leaving the ship, Kate manages to get into the lifeboat. However, when she witnesses the Titanic disappearing into the abyss and hears the screams of hundreds of people still in the water, she wonders if any rescue is even possible.
