The author of the world-renowned novel The Man Who Wanted to Be Happy, against the backdrop of an engaging story set in a picturesque historic town in the heart of Burgundy, ingeniously combines the theme of personal development with spiritual search.
The main character, Alice, comes to visit her family and meets her childhood friend Jean, who, to everyone's surprise, has left his studies to become a priest, to which he felt called. However, the number of parishioners who attend the local church is so small that Jean begins to doubt the meaning of his mission, feels helpless and loses motivation. Alice, who is a practical, dynamic and courageous modern woman, and solving problems is her daily bread, decides to take matters into her own hands. She takes her determination to help her friend find meaning again and bring people back to faith as a job challenge, and as a successful advertising agency manager, she intends to use all possible marketing strategies to do so. At that moment, she has no idea that this decision will turn her and her boyfriend's life upside down...
Although Alice is a staunch atheist who is allergic to anything related to religion, she throws herself into her task with her own verve and consistency. He tries to penetrate the secrets of the spirituality of various religious schools, while trying to test and verify the truth of their main ideas and principles, which he gradually discovers. In doing so, she finds herself in situations that force her to overcome the limits of her own ego and reevaluate deep-rooted beliefs and expectations. He reveals fundamental contradictions between the original form of spiritual teachings and established church dogmas and rituals, and to his astonishment also the unexpected wealth of original truths, which are strikingly similar in individual directions. For Alice, the effort to help her friend becomes an impulse to discover authentic spirituality, her own inner potential and leads her on the path of self-discovery. He will realize that if people are open and willing to listen and be guided by these truths, they can find the key to hitherto unknown freedom and happiness.
The author invites us to a fascinating search for what allows a person to rise to another dimension, in which his actions are full of power and joy is a permanent state.
