Elizabeth of York was the eldest daughter of King Edward IV of England. A red-haired, beautiful and kind-hearted girl is the darling of the whole family, but her life suddenly takes a sharp turn when her father dies at the peak of his life. His uncle, the infamous Richard III, uses his death to usurp the throne and imprisons his two younger brothers, the rightful heirs to the throne, in Elizabeth's Tower, who then disappear without a trace.
Elizabeth must endure Richard's wooing in order to become his wife and thereby further validate his claim to the throne. Although the king murdered her brothers, she believes that she must accept his marriage proposal.
However, Elizabeth is saved by Henry Tudor, who confronts Richard in the Battle of Bosworth Field. After his victory, he is proclaimed king and asks Elizabeth for her hand in marriage to become the first queen of the Tudor line. The marriage is a happy and fruitful one, and not only will it unite the until then warring Lancaster and York houses - with a red and white rose in their coat of arms - but it will also produce four offspring who will live to adulthood, among them Henry VIII. p>
