Autistic women are like elusive shadows.
An adult woman with high-functioning autism is a practically unknown phenomenon to us — if she appears in film or literature, then probably as a female version of a male nerd interested in computer games, mathematics, the Rubik's cube or train timetables. Swedish writer Clara Törnvall, who was diagnosed with autism at the age of forty-two, discovered that her experience and understanding were very different from common ideas about autism. Therefore, it paints a different picture. In her personal narrative, she mixes elements of non-fiction with interviews with autistic women and challenges our view of normality and deviations from normality. It focuses on a group of women who have been invisible in society until now.
