Czech Christmas Mass, also called Hey Master, is a church composition written in Czech, the author of which – music and text – is Jakub Jan Ryba (1765 – 1815). It was written in 1796 and became to some extent a symbol of Czech Christmas. It consists of 9 parts and is laid out in the usual Mass ordinaria. The text of the Czech Christmas Mass is conceived as a conversation between shepherds preparing for the journey to Bethlehem.
