Waldemar Matuška (1932–2009) now follows Václav Neckár, Karel Gott or Helena Vondráčková. The premiere will take place at the end of September, with Supraphon simultaneously offering authentic versions of famous songs from 1961 to 1980. From the traffic light beginnings to the Slavic medals to the collaboration with KTO, these are fourteen of the biggest hits on vinyl and thirty-three on double CD. Their list is a fascinating display of compositions from the golden fund of Czechoslovak popular music, mainly associated with the sixties and seventies, but still unforgettable today. The bearded bard has created a unique singing category for himself. Songs by top domestic composers and lyricists, as well as well-chosen American, French or Italian cover versions, are still unsurpassed. "Walda" rightfully became the darling of the nation, and his songs became national in the truest sense of the word. His position in people's memory could not be weakened even by emigration to the USA, fortunately soon replaced by star returns after 1989.
