The first part of a four-part novelistic fresco about the life of the last Přemysl kings. The historical saga begins in the Czech principality, in which the young Přemysl Otakar I takes over the government. The country is torn apart by family disputes and weakened by the emperor's aggressive policy. However, Přemysl does not intend to give up. He loves his ancestral homeland and longs for power. He conducts skillful diplomatic negotiations and fights with sword in hand. His struggle lasts thirty years before he succeeds in controlling and uniting the country. He is gradually consolidating his power, gaining foreign allies and, with the help of the emperor, the royal crown. His political achievements pave the way for the Czech kingdom among the European powers of the 13th century.
