In 2009, Supraphon released a two-disc set called Zdeněk Svěrák Stories. It contained six stories from the book of the same name, published by Fragment, read by the author. The four short stories did not fit into the edition at the time, so they are now being published separately. These new narratives combine surprising points, believable and interesting fates of heroes, sensitively communicated details and observations. With his literary work, Zdeněk Svěrák fulfills an old wish from his youth to be a writer. The success with readers and listeners is proof that he has realized his dreams well. Zdeněk Svěrák adds humor, desire and sensuality to his excellent narrative not only as an author, but also as an interpreter, he is capable of subtle nuances in the persuasiveness of the characters (priest Zbyšek Pzontek from Tetřevo, Vendula from Fotografa, the central hero of the short story Podvodník or Věrka from Hot Sunday). The charm of Svěrák's work lies in the art of precise expression, in mystery, erotic allure and always a surprising conclusion. His work can rightly be compared to the work of our greatest storytellers.
