In remote areas of the American state of New Mexico in 1947, something happened that to this day keeps not only scientists, politicians and soldiers awake, but also those eager for unexplained mysteries. Archaeologist Nora Kelly, after a categorical rejection that even costs her a place at the Institute, agrees to undertake excavations at the site where an unknown object appears to have landed. But what was it? That's exactly what the well-equipped team of billionaire Lucas Tappan wants to find out, and eventually persuades Nora to cooperate.
But the promising research is soon disturbed by strange events: the disappearance of an important scientist, the discovery of unexpected remains, but above all the discovery of an object that arouses great hopes and fears. So it's no surprise that FBI agents also appear at the Devil's table - and Nora is reunited with her "old acquaintances" Corrie Swanson and Sheriff Homer Watts.
