Grandmother was married in 1855 by Němcová. Czech now picks up her thrown gauntlet - and offers exactly nine Grandfathers as a response. In this respect, it is unique within Czech literature and Czech comics. The author of poetic and imaginative comics is Pavel Čech – a secret member of the Fast Arrows, an Indian, a record holder in starting a fire with friction sticks, a former fireman, a father of two sons – and also a painter, writer and one of the most prominent domestic comic authors. The highlight of Čech's work so far is the book The Secret of the Island Behind the Board Fence (2009), for which he won the Muriel Award for the best Czech comic album in 2010.
