Memories of the Prague Uprising were written by his military commander, General Karel Kutlvašr, at the end of his imprisonment in 1960. By that time, he had already spent more than eleven years in an unjust prison. In the context of Kutlvašr's memoirs, he tells about the hard battles, about the behind-the-scenes negotiations with the Germans, and about the emerging politicization that took over society after the end of the war. His diary was never fully published because the communist police confiscated it and carefully preserved it. This publication is the rectification of the age-old wrong done to the general by the totalitarian regime, and gives an insight into the last moments of the war's fury through the eyes of a direct participant.
