How can birds sense that a storm is coming that we still have no idea about? How will they find their way to places thousands of kilometers away when they have never been there? How can they accurately imitate the complex songs of dozens of other species? After six months, how do they remember where they hid their food in an area of hundreds of square kilometers?
Perhaps the word genius is really appropriate.
For a long time we thought that birds solved problems with their wings. Now it turns out that they use a brain that is equal in performance to that of primates, and in some respects even to humans. Research in recent years shows that, although bird brains have a different structure than the brains of mammals, they are in no way comparable in terms of functionality. Birds just found their own way to use their heads. Jennifer Ackerman traveled across the world to collect the latest knowledge in scientists' offices and in the field and create an understandable whole. She did not forget to add her typical humor, readability and insight. Whoever you are, you will have a completely different understanding of the term bird cerebellum after reading this book.

Jennifer Ackerman (born 1959) has been writing about science, nature, and human biology for more than three decades. Throughout his life, he tries to make knowledge accessible to the widest possible audience, to search for man's place in the context given by nature, and to think creatively about scientific facts. Her style combines readability and engaging with previous careful research. This is where her main gift lies, and thanks to which her work receives repeated awards. Among other things, she received a scholarship from the American National Endowment for Literature in the field of non-fiction, a Bunting scholarship and a grant from the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation.
He has countless contributions and articles in many publications, such as National Geographic and the New York Times. But above all, he writes books. The genius of birds (The Genius of Birds) is the newest of them, the seventh in order.
We are happy to finally bring the author's work to Czech readers and we believe that you too will be infected by her enthusiasm and love for the world around us.
