"Grey's Mountain, like Sycamore Alley, shows that Grisham's work—still extremely readable and engaging—is moving toward more serious and powerful themes worthy of his exceptional talent."
WASHINGTON POST
Wall Street, 2008. Samatha Kofer's skyrocketing career at a large law firm is cut short by the recession. Samantha narrowly escapes dismissal, but is forced to take a year's leave and spend it volunteering at a legal aid center somewhere in the countryside. She goes to Brady, Virginia, to experience "real law" in the heart of the Appalachian Mountains: preparing a lawsuit, participating in a retrial, contacting the judge... However, the locals do not welcome her presence, especially since she starts to get involved in their problems - coal has been mined in Brady for generations, and for generations they have been dealing with breaking the law, ignoring the rules, twisting the regulations. Sometimes it culminates in a court case, sometimes in casualties... a few weeks after her arrival, Samantha will have to deal with both.
