A book for the upcoming Czech TV historical series about Heinrich Mattoni, the founder of the world-famous mineral water bottling plant.
Heinrich Mattoni achieved the unimaginable in his time - thanks to an insane desire for success, passionate ferocity and a brilliant, if rather intuitive business spirit, he made it from a small, poor official to a large businessman whose name is still spoken by at least half of Europe.
However, the book is not a description of business in the second half of the 19th century. Nor is it a biography of an early capitalist and a charismatic rabble-rouser in one person, although it contains real elements from the lives of real characters. It is a saga of dramatic family twists in the dramatic time of the twilight of the Austro-Hungarian Empire and the rise of the new order. It is a legend about inner strength and boundless courage, but also about chance and luck, and especially about relationships in which it is often true that love can only be a step away from hate.
Heinrich Mattoni faced many tricksters, obstacles and competitors in his life. However, his biggest opponent in life and at the same time his partner was his wife Mína, a very proud and progressive woman of her time. One impulsive and ill-advised act was enough to turn a marriage into a lifelong struggle – for respect, recognition and, paradoxically, family happiness. The dilemma of a relationship in which two cannot live together and at the same time without each other is as relevant today as it was 150 years ago.
