Otomar Dvořák and Josef Pepson Snětivý dedicated their seventh joint book to Charles IV. They followed in his footsteps through Prague, Bohemia and Moravia to visit Karl's buildings, show their importance for our countries and for him personally, and describe how they look today. Some of his achievements, e.g. Karlštejn, church of St. Everyone knows Vita or Charles Bridge. However, there are a lot of other, less well-known castles, monasteries and churches, about which it is not well known that he founded them, or at least modified them in a fundamental way, marked them with his presence and spent important, even fateful moments of his earthly journey there. Karl's efforts to make Bohemia and Prague the center of the Roman Empire enriched us with a whole range of great, unique buildings. Otomar and Pepson tell their history, place them in context with his life and intentions, describe their further destinies and attractions in the surrounding area... Thanks to this, a plastic and unique view of our greatest monarch was created, which in its form follows the successful book Landscape of the first Přemyslovci. There is also a summary of foreign buildings, the construction or reconstruction of which Karel initiated, and the text is complemented by almost 400 photographs and images. The authors say about this publication: "We hope that this book, like our series Utajené hrady a zámky or the aforementioned 'first Přemyslovci', will become your favorite guide when you go on trips in the footsteps of the Father of the Fatherland. Maybe you'll even notice little things that didn't seem so important to you before. And maybe on these trips - just like us - you will realize that Charles IV. he fundamentally influenced the face of the Czech lands and that we still benefit from his legacy."
