Flower language is said to originate from ancient harems and experienced an unprecedented flourishing during the reign of the British Queen Victoria, when direct expression of mutual feelings, especially between persons of the opposite sex, was almost impossible and considered at least indecent. Discreet communication using flowers was thus developed, expressing feelings and opinions that could be squeezed into words. Over time, the charming custom was gradually abandoned and the meaning attached to flowers was thus completely forgotten. In different regions and times, the symbolism was a little different, the booklet lists all the found meanings of individual plants.
