What if Jay Gatsby wasn't murdered by George Wilson?
At the beginning of the novel, we witness Gatsby's encounter with a woman wielding a gun, whose identity remains hidden. Finally, we find out that Gatsby could drink the blood of three heroines of the novel, who pass the narrative baton to each other: his fateful love Daisy Buchanan, the open-minded golfer Jordan Baker, and Catherine McCoy, whose sister ignores the well-intentioned advice to move to New York. Instead, she throws herself into the loving arms of Tom Buchanan and eventually, unfortunately, under the wheels of Gatsby's Rolls-Royce.
The author faithfully adheres to the framework of Francis Scott Fitzgerald's original novel, but at the same time introduces us to the past and motivations of her narrators, which thus appear much more plastic than in The Great Gatsby. Using the example of two sisters and one pair of friends, he highlights the strong mutual bond between women and individual freedom, as opposed to excessive attachment to the husband as the only source of happiness and material security.
The novel is also interspersed with the investigation of detective Frank Charles, who suspects that all three women are lying to him.
