On Friday, April 19, 2018, the remains of the Archbishop of Prague and Primate of Bohemia Joseph Cardinal Beran (December 29, 1888 – May 17, 1969) were transferred to the Vatican Basilica. In the following days, his last will was fulfilled and the coffin with the remains was placed in a sarcophagus in the Cathedral of St. Vít, Václav and Vojtěch in Prague. Along with the return of this great exile, we want to recall not only his life story, but also the personal qualities and attitudes he held as a representative of the domestic Catholic clergy and which brought him into conflict with the Nazi and Communist regimes. He emerged from these clashes as a moral authority with a reach beyond the borders of his church and his homeland.
