The only completely preserved ancient trilogy, its parts are Agamemnon, Choephora, Eumenides. The plot begins with King Agamemnon returning home from the Trojan War and being killed by his wife Clytemnestra and her lover Aegisthus. His son Orestes avenges him at the behest of the gods (he kills the murderer and his mother). He goes mad from his act and seeks protection from the gods, but they place his fate in the hands of the Athenian council of elders. Here the author expresses the idea that people can only be judged by people. The work is from 458 BC
