All of them experienced injustice, but none of them chose the path of revenge. It took two decades for a farmer from Řeporyj to uncover the murderer of the parish priest in Krten along with the strange circumstances the parish priest faced under the previous regime. The stonemason from Waidhaus, West Germany, served nine months in a Czechoslovak prison, but he did not become embittered, and after November 1989, as mayor, he already assisted in tearing down the Iron Curtain. And other silent heroes, whose fates Vladimír Votýpka captures this time, are not subject to bitterness either. There are also two pilots - a war pilot of the famous Czechoslovak squadron 310, who suffered the typical fate of a member of the British RAF, and a young glider pilot who became the victim of a strange accident - or Count Karel Paar, a nobleman who was robbed of his estate by the entrepreneurial ingenuity of the new era. Like every book by Votýpka, this one draws on personal encounters and speaks in the authentic voice of the heroes themselves. Above all, however, it is decorated with the brilliant narrative style for which this well-known chronicler of the Czech nobility became famous.
