The book tells the colorful life story of an Austrian peasant who refused the occupation of his country by the Nazis and subsequently service in the Nazi army. Read an intimate story about the strength necessary to resist and the courage it takes to maintain one's honor in the face of a world that does not understand one's reasons.
Franz Jägerstätter was beatified in 2007, while his wife and three daughters were still alive. The Czech edition of the book also contains a selection of essential Jägerstätter texts, letters and annotations. In 2019, director Terence Malick made a film based on his life, The Hidden Life, which won the prize of the ecumenical jury at the Cannes festival.
