A novel from our hill country. A young girl experiences her first happiness when she marries into a rich estate. She has a loving father-in-law, a husband and later a son. Soon, however, both the father-in-law and the husband die. After some time, the heroine remarries a nice man. The family is growing with more children, but the problems are caused by the eldest son, who feels alienated. The stepfather turns out to be a reasonable man and young Jan finds his way back to his family.
