The merchant Ebenezer Skruž is greedy. In fact, he only loves one thing - money! He piles them up and shakes them wherever he can. Even on Christmas, the holiday of peace and tranquility, he cannot be kind and generous. But everything is about to change soon...
On Christmas Day, Skruž has a strange vision in which his deceased companion Jakub Marley visits him. She tells him in a mysterious voice that three ghosts will appear to him, who will help the old scrounger become a better person if he wants. Mysterious visitors will indeed gradually come to Skruž - the spirit of last Christmas, the spirit of this year's Christmas and the spirit of next Christmas.
They remind him of his childhood, introduce him to the poor family of his scribe and show him the happiness of his impoverished nephew and his children during the holidays. The final ghost reveals a terrifying future to the merchant...
