The publication dedicated to the life and songs of Waldemar Matuška is published in the late nineties of one of the best Czech singers. The insightful and revealing book charts Matuška's fate from early childhood and brings a new perspective on his rather mysterious beginnings. We will find out where he came from, where he spent his young years and how he got involved in the Semafor and Rokoko theaters. We will walk with him the whole long journey from Košice, where he was born, through Prague, where he grew up, to the little-known period in Karlovy Vary, where Waldemar Matuška learned to be a glassblower. We will revive the long-forgotten years during which he struggled in the first dance bands. The golden era for the charismatic bearded man was the 1960s and 1970s, when together with Karl Gott he reigned supreme in Czechoslovak popular music. The new book also recalls his extraordinary achievements abroad, which have been somewhat forgotten until now. Matuska gradually conquered Paris's Olympia, London's Royal Albert Hall, and America's Nashville - long before he emigrated to the USA in 1986. The text is accompanied by a number of photographs from sold-out theaters, theater productions in which Matuška performed, and films in which he shone. The book is complemented by contemporary programs, reviews and quotes from dozens of interviews with Waldemar and his friends.
The life story and stellar career of Waldemar Matuška take on completely new dimensions in the book THE DREAM OF SPHERE DÁT. Based on a detailed study of the material, the author Michal Bystrov deals in detail with the theater, film and music career of the popular singer, the secrets connected with his origin, the unheard-of ban that affected him in 1964, and the reasons for Matuška's sensational emigration in 1986. In the light of little-known facts, Matuška's departure to the USA seems like an inevitable step, which led to dozens of setbacks and many great grievances. The book is also a careful reconstruction of Matuska's travels around the world - from India to Egypt and Great Britain to several important trips to the United States between 1969 and 1983.
