In the previous book Mosad, Michael Bar Zohar and Nissim Mishal dealt with the most famous operations of the Israeli secret service, and thrillingly described the dangerous actions of its members who willingly risked their lives for the sake of their country.
This book follows the activities of the Mossad and deals with the thirty most daring military missions of the Israeli special forces. It compellingly depicts the most important battles, sabotage actions deep in enemy territory and the tasks of special commandos, revealing the fears and hopes of top commanders and ordinary soldiers alike. The authors focus on operations that succeeded, but do not gloss over those that ended in failure. The reader will also learn about the private and professional lives of the most important figures in Israeli life: Moshe Dayan, Ariel Sharon, the Netanyahu brothers, Ehud Barak and Avigdor Kahalani. For example, we can follow the military career of Ariel Sharon from 1948, when he almost lost his life in the Battle of Latrun, to the crossing of the Suez Canal in 1973. Ehud Barak introduces himself to us during the daring action in Beirut (1973), which he commanded in a female disguise, and then we meet him again in 1999, when he was elected prime minister. Each chapter is followed by an excerpt from an interview with the protagonist of the respective operation – in some cases prominent players on the Israeli political scene. Many of the photographs that accompany the text have not been published anywhere before.
