Simon Basset, the Duke of Hastings, devised a plan to get rid of all the matchmakers and dowry girls from society. He feigns affection for the lovely Daphne Bridgerton, his friend's younger sister, with whom he makes an agreement to court her on sight. Although he has no intention of getting married, there is something about that girl that makes his heart beat faster.
Daphne soon forgets that their courtship is just a sham. Over time, she truly falls in love with the temperamental nobleman. But she must stop the handsome duke, who has vowed to remain single forever, from breaking her heart at all costs.
